Perspective is such an interesting thing. We have watched the mounting snow in the northeast US with amazement as snow buries houses, disrupts businesses, overwhelms government services and keeps auto repair folks very busy. Today we have 3 to 4 inches of snow and the local news channels are all agog. Admittedly heavy show does tend to slow down bank robberies and political demonstrations but, still, a little perspective would be appreciated.
But this is not new. Oh, yes, another person has a problem, but really our own is so very worse, so much more interesting, so important, at least to me.
So, for today, I will choose to pray and work for folks who are lonely, afraid, lost, or overwhelmed without worrying about the cost to me. I will consider that the challenges I face may hold the seeds for growth in compassion and service. I will trust God more and whine to Him less, confident that God provides all I truly need, many of my wants and protects me from desires that would lead me to lesser things.
For today I will choose to live as a victor rather than a victim, as a beloved child of God embracing opportunities to embrace kindness, hope, faith, joy, love and a future of purpose, no matter its length of days.
Dear God, make it so by the power of Your love, and the guidance of Your Spirit through the blood of Your Son. AMEN
