my darling, you are some of my best work

When folks cling to an image of themselves that does not agree with the mirror it is heart breaking for those who love them. We see them as amazing: smart, kind, strong, passionate, caring and a blessing every single day. I don't know who they see in the mirror, but it is not that woman. Apparently it is someone whose hair or eyelashes or feet don't seem quite right even though on another woman they are perfectly fine.

Jesus, who was so universally kind to the women of his day, certainly included all of us, women as well as men, when He said: Aren’t five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them is overlooked by God. Even the hairs on your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.*

The way the world sees us and the way we see ourselves may count us as coming up short, often in amazingly silly ways. But God, that God who created all the worlds and rules in all times, that God who always speaks truth, says you are worthy of God's tender focus and close attention ... really who cares so much about me as to count the hairs of my head?

So while we are waiting to see clearly in the mirror, God continues to love us and care for us and care about us at all times and in all places. God blesses us in ways too many to count while God waits for us to start exploring new ways of seeing ourselves. Listen in the stillness as God says: "I love you utterly, just the way you are. After all I don't make junk; and you, my darling, are some of my best work."
